Review The Angel’s share by J.R. Ward

#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward delivers the second novel in her Bourbon Kings series—a sweeping saga of a Southern dynasty struggling to maintain a façade of privilege and prosperity, while secrets and indiscretions threaten its very foundation…

In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de la crème of high society—just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discrete staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder…

No one is above suspicion—especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle—as well as with his former horse trainer’s daughter. Meanwhile, the family’s financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself.

Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few can be trusted. Then, at the very brink of the family’s demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a savior…or the worst of all the sinners?

Hello again, fellow book readers! We, from your beloved book blog, are back with yet another review for you guys. Some of you might have heard of this book and even read it (we’re talking here about a New York Times bestselling author, after) and here you have the pretty, pretty cover:

“The Angel’s Share” is the second instalment in “The Bourbon Kings” trilogy by J.R. Ward. And if the name J.R. Ward (Helloooo, Black Dagger Brotherhood, anyone?) is not enough to make your heart somersault with barely contained joy, then I can think of very few others to accomplish this deed among romance authors.

It’s no secret that she’s one of the blog’s collective darling and of course, among one of my personal, all-time favourites. It does help that every book written by her it’s a masterpiece in itself (and no, i sure as hell am not overpraising her books; she really is THAT good).

And so, “The Angel’s Share” it is, folks. I sure missed the Bradford family! I couldn’t help but notice that “The Angel’s Share” was rather more suspenseful than just plain old romantic, which I have to admit is something I like. Compared to the rest of the Bourbon Kings, it felt like I was reading a completely different book but with the same characters.

But fret not, beloved minions! I can see Ward’s little magic in there, clear as daylight.

If you happen to also be one of her fans, then you definitely know that she has this ability to write amazing books that manage to stick with you forever and somehow make you want to reread them again and again.  And as I was diligently reading, like the little bookworm that I am, I kept getting those oh-so-good “Dynasty” and “North and South” vibes. And if you don’t know what i’m talking about, Netflix is your friend for those 2 masterpieces and go watch them ASAP!

Or else you’ll get this virtual punch from the “Books with Fangs” staff:

It probably also has something to do with that absolutely gorgeous cover and the plot and characters themselves. And the descriptions. And the drama. And the very good kind of soap opera feels that “The Bourbon Kings” series gives. And did I mention the drama?

And everything else, really. While the book happens to be on the longish side (I know, I know, I love my books long and scorching hot) it surely keeps you engrossed in its fast-paced action and compelling. Lane’s, Edward’s and Gin’s stories made me want to scream for more and possibly wreck half of my kitchen until the next book is out and it can sooth my demons.  And Lane won my heart after all he did and how hard he tried to keep his family and the ones he loved together and at the same time his family business up and floating.

Damn you, Baldwine siblings! Why are you so interesting? And the plot twists, people! The plot twists!

But in a very, superbly good way! Trust my inner bookworm on this since she’s rarely wrong and never disappointed you.

Just in case, grab that martini as well while you do it. Cause we’re dealing here with up to 8 POVs and that, ladies and gentlemen, takes hellava skill to write and make it sound awesome.

This series has 5 fat stars from us and an avid wish to see it made into a tv show and fast. Because, darlings, it has everything a good tv show needs: love, sex, melts-your-panties-right-off romance, hatred, rich people and lots and lots of secrets.

And we all love secrets, don’t we? Meanwhile, stay tuned for the 3rd book in this awesome series titled “Devil’s Cut”, out August 2017. And by “stay tuned”, I mean guard your bank accounts for it and make sure to preorder it properly. And don’t forget, all hail the Gods of Fast Shipping and online book sites!
