Blog tour: Review Soul of the sword by Julie Kagawa

Review Soul of the sword                                                                                                                                                        by Julie Kagawa

Synopsis: Kitsune shapeshifter Yumeko has one task: to take her piece of the ancient and powerful scroll to the Steel Feather temple in order to prevent the summoning of the Harbinger of Change, the great Kami Dragon who will grant one wish to whomever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. But she has a new enemy now. The demon Hakaimono, who for centuries was trapped in a cursed sword, has escaped and possessed the boy she thought would protect her, Kage Tatsumi of the Shadow Clan.

Hakaimono has done the unthinkable and joined forces with the Master of Demons in order to break the curse of the sword and set himself free. To overthrow the empire and cover the land in darkness, they need one thing: the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. As the paths of Yumeko and the possessed Tatsumi cross once again, the entire empire will be thrown into chaos.

Julie Kagawa creates such unique and vibrant beauty between the pages of Soul of the Sword, the second instalment of Shadow of the Fox trilogy, published in UK by HQ Stories.

This book picks up where „Shadow of the fox” ends, the final battle with Hakaimono still hauting the main characters, however, this doesn’t stop them from trying to retrieve the other pieces of the stroll and to rescue Tatsumi. I must say that „Soul of the sword” was much more fun than the previous book, that is because i felt Julie Kagawa putting more effort in the descriptions of the fight scenes, therefor i felt the plot action-packed.

If you think you liked the characters in the first book, you’ll love them in Soul of the Sword! I am in love with Yumeko !

Another aspect that really took me by surprise were the plot twists that happened. Most of the time i am able to tell what it is going to happen in a novel and i had a few totally different assumptions of the plot than what actually happened. The resolution of the Tatsumi/Hakaimono issue was especially good, and I’m looking forward to how it’s further explored in the next one!

One particular thing that kinda drove me crazy was the slow pace of the first half of the book, and that is because we already spent the previous one travelling to the Steel Feather Templebut after that, the action and story just blew me away. Julie Kagawa is a goddess at writing fantasy world building!

Overall I really enjoyed the second book in the Shadow of the Fox trilogy, the characters are developing and keeping me on my toes, plus the plot for the most part is moving along. I can’t wait to see what happens next especially considering that plot twist of an ending.
